2017 COLLEGE NIGHT PRESENTATION

SCHOLARSHIPs (The scholarships in RED are from 2016-2017 school year so that you may get an idea of the scholarships that will be available.  I will post 2017-2018 scholarships in BLUE)  Please don't miss the "ANNOUNCEMENTS" section at the end of the scholarships.  I will list the most recent announcements and scholarships, first.

2017-2018 SCHOLARSHIPS:

11/13/17 -

The Elks Lodge is offering three scholarships - Most Valuable Student Scholarship - open to all senior high school students - deadline November 27 - please visit www.enf.elks.org/mvs

Their 2nd scholarship - limited to children or grandchildren of current Elks members - $4,000 - www.enf.elks.org/leg - deadline February 2

Their 3rd scholarship - North Little Rock Lodge scholarship - www.elks1004.org -April 15 deadline

11/1/17 - For seniors interested in teaching - Mississippi State University is offering a full scholarship, including room and board - 28 or above on ACT - 3.5 overall gpa - Please see Mrs. Simmons if interested

10/31/17 - This scholarship information was sent to us.  I am passing it along simply because it looks like an opportunity BUT please be cautious.  DO NOT share any information such as banking accounts, social security numbers etc:
This is through Sixt rent a car and is an annual nationwide scholarship - 5 students awarded $5,000 - visit www.sixt.com/sixt-scholars for information

10/26/17 - Senior Beta Club Members - National Beta Scholarship - ranges from $1,000 - $15,000 - Application opens November 1 and deadline is January 25 - downside is a $15 application fee!!!  sorry for that but nothing we can do - apply at www.betaclub.org/scholarship

10/16/17 - $1,000 - must have played sports in high school - Athnet Sports Recruiting Scholarship - Deadline June 1 -www.athleticscholarships.net

10/5/17 - There is a scholarship website that consistently sends us faxes about their scholarships.  I am always hesitant to share these sites because I really never know if they are legitimate or not.  Therefore, I am sharing the site address BUT please do not ever share personal information such as your social security number, bank account information, etc.  I believe these scholarships are probably ok but be cautious.  The website is:  studentscholarships.org

10/2/17 - Scholarship:  ACT Student Champion Award - $500 - for a student who has overcome challenges in their life - has at least an ACT of 22 - at least 3.0 gpa - preference will be given to first-generation college students - apply at www.act.org/readinesschampions - deadline December 31

10/2/17 - American Legion Scholarship - Four $1,000 scholarships - Four $2,500 scholarships - must be children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren of American Legionnaires - Deadline to the American Legion Department March 12, 2018 - See Mrs. Simmons' file drawer under "A"

9/20/17 - Scholarship:  HSC Warranty Scholarship - $2,000 - Deadline December 1 - requires a video submission - apply at www.hscwarranty.com/scholarship

Henderson Reddie Day, for seniors, is Tuesday, November 7. If you are interested, please visit www.hsu.edu, click on future students, click on schedule a visit, scroll down to Reddie Day, Nov. 7 and register. If you visit on that day, please remember to bring a form back from Henderson, for absences. The registration closes this Friday.

10/9/17 - A dinner hosted by Chancellor Kelly Damphousse exclusively for central Arkansas students. The event will be held on October 17 at the Chenal Country Club located at 10 Chenal Club Blvd. Little Rock, AR 72223.

If you have any students that have inquired about Arkansas State, please encourage them to register at www.astate.edu/redwolf as soon as possible. Students and their parents/guardians will check-in at 5:30, meet with academic areas from 5:30-6:30, and dinner will be served at 7:00.

INSTRUCTIONS TO COMPLETE THE ARKANSAS ACADEMIC CHALLENGE LOTTERY SCHOLARSHIP - OPENED OCTOBER 1ST - ONLY REQUIREMENT IS 19 ON THE ACT - AWARD IS $14,000

www.scholarships.adhe.edu - scroll down to START - answer all questions - submit should be the last button you have to click - very easy and painless -  you will get an email confirming that you applied - in  the spring, you will receive an e-mail asking you to log back in and click the ACCEPT button - therefore, write down your login and password so that you will be able to access your account in the spring!!! 

10/5/17 - INSTRUCTIONS TO FILL OUT FAFSA  - AVAILABLE OCTOBER 1ST
FAFSA:  www.fafsa.gov - first click on FSA ID - get an FSA ID for you and a parent - this may take 2-3 days to obtain - keep this number because you have to fill out FAFSA every year that you are in college - After getting the ID's, click START new FAFSA and begin the process - save along the way so you don't lose your information - this asks for your parents income - this income is from 2016 tax return - you can automatically upload this information as you fill out the form (I suggest doing this) - you will know you are finished when you sign using your FSA ID number (both you and parent must sign) - finally click submit


10/3/17 - Any junior interested in attending Governor's School, next summer, please see Mrs. Simmons as soon as possible.

10/3/17 - Junior and Senior preview day - UALR - October 13 or November 3 - On this day, UALR will waive the $40 application fee!!!! There will be a $1,000 scholarship drawing and social media scholarship contest.  Family and friends are invited to attend with you.   Visit www.ualr.edu/admissions/discover to register

10/3/17 - Profiles in Courage Essay Contest - 1st place $10,000, 2nd place $1,000 - Grades 9 - 12 may participate - deadline January 4, 2018 - for details visit:  jfklibrary.org/essaycontest

10/3/17 - Jostens changed the date, to place your graduation orders, to Thursday, October 12, 1:30 in the library.  You will be called out of class when they are ready.  Remember that Jostens asks for at least a $60 deposit.  You have until March to get your balance paid off.  You MUST have or order a cap and gown, even if you don't order anything else.  You WILL NOT walk in graduation without a cap and gown.  If you intend to use someone else's cap and gown, please let  me know.  If you intend to do that, please order a 2018 tassel to go with your used gown.

10/3/17 - Arkansas State University has two senior preview days coming up.  The October 28th preview day has been cancelled.  You can register at www.astate.edu/previewday.  The October ACT is the last ACT before ASU's December 1 deadline

EMPLOYMENT:  Just got this from Bass Pro Shops

We are conducting a job fair at Bass Pro Shops in Little Rock on Wednesday October 18 from 10am to 8pm.  We will be conducting interviews and same day hiring for cashiers and Santa’s Wonderland Elves.

If you would, please pass this information along to any of your students 18 years of age, that would be interested in part time seasonal employment.

Even though we will be hiring as seasonal employment, we will offer part time positions to those individuals that work through the holidays and portray a motivation and desire to become part of the “Bass Pro Family”.

9/15/17 - ​Any senior who has applied or plans to apply to UALR - Please fill out a scholarship application!!!  The Chancellor's Leadership Corps Scholarship is $32,000 and 12 of our students received it last year!!  They will schedule an interview with you and you want to be in the first wave of interviews, therefore, you need to apply before November 1.  This means apply AND fill out the application.  You will need to send two recommendation letters.  I do not mind e-mailing these for you if you will get them to me as soon as possible.  DON'T MISS OUT ON A POTENTIAL $32,000 SCHOLARSHIP

The $1,000 scholarships can go out of state, the $2,500 must stay in the state. - See Mrs. Simmons file drawer under A - deadline March 13, 2017.

10/27/16 - I work with Griswold Home Care which is offering $1,000 scholarship for incoming and current college students. We’re trying to spread the word and encourage students to apply. 11/2/16 - The NWFA Education & Research Foundation Wood Studies Scholarship is designed to promote the post-secondary study of forestry and related forestry sciences. Trees are a natural resource providing the raw materials that support the livelihood of those employed in the forestry industry, including members of the NWFA. This nonrenewable scholarship in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded to a current high school senior who will study forestry, environmental science, or natural resources in an effort to advance and improve forestry practices for generations to come. The deadline is February 1, 2017.

I work for Sixt rent a car and we have an annual nationwide scholarship and would love to share the opportunity to apply with your students. We will be awarding 5 students $5,000 toward their study at any 2 or 4 year accredited university. I'd like to make your students aware of a scholarship opportunity. Nursing Schools Almanac has just launched its third annual Aspiring Nurse Scholarship. Our website will award a $1,000 scholarship to an aspiring nurse who best demonstrates:
+ A track record of academic excellence, particularly in science and mathematics
+ A passion for the nursing profession and the overall field of healthcare
