SCHOLARSHIPs (The scholarships in RED are from 2016-2017 school year so that you may get an idea of the scholarships that will be available.  I will post 2017-2018 scholarships in BLUE)  Please don't miss the "ANNOUNCEMENTS" section at the end of the scholarships.  I will list the most recent announcements and scholarships, first.


1/11/18 - The Judith Bean Memorial Scholarship is now available - $2,000 - Deadline February 9 - This is a Harmony Grove only scholarship!!! - See Mrs. Simmons' file drawer under J

1/10/18 - If you are a female, graduating senior, and interested in the field of teaching, Delta Kappa Gamma is offering a $500 scholarship - Deadline is March 13 - Please see Mrs. Simmons file drawer under D

12/13/17 -

The Arkansas Association of Federal Coordinators (AAFC) is offering the AAFC Scholarship to high school seniors to supplement college costs beginning their freshman year. This scholarship award is $1,000 for the first academic year and will be awarded to full-time students who enroll in an Arkansas college or university, including junior colleges, community and vocational or technical colleges, and plan to major in education.

Basic eligibility requirements include:

1.  Remain in school for eight (8) consecutive semesters or until graduation requirements have been met

2.  Minimum grade point average of 3.0 or a 4.0 grading scale

3.  Good citizenship record. No suspensions or expulsions

4.  Membership in a service or academic organization (extracurricular activity may be substituted)

5.  Letter of recommendation from principal, teacher, or counselor, and a non-family member. Three (3) letters of recommendation are required

6.  Plan to work in the field of education

Click here for a copy of the AAFC Scholarship Award Application. Please encourage eligible students to apply for this scholarship. The completed application must be received by January 10, 2018. Counselors should advise students that it is important to complete and mail all items listed on the application "checklist." Failure to do so could result in the choice of another applicant. If additional application forms are needed, duplicates may be made.

A letter notifying the award recipient(s) and respective school(s) will be mailed in a timely fashion.

The application will also be available on the AAEA website at www.theaaea.org. Click on "Constituent Groups" at the top, choose "AAFC" in the drop box, and then "AAFC Scholarship" in the next drop box marked "More in This Section."

Scholarship for Senior athletes: Four $1,000 scholarships will be presented by the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame at a banquet on April 6th. Please read the information and submit your essay. It says it can be mailed or emailed. I do not mind emailing it if you would like me to. 10/5/17 - There is a scholarship website that consistently sends us faxes about their scholarships.  I am always hesitant to share these sites because I really never know if they are legitimate or not.  Therefore, I am sharing the site address BUT please do not ever share personal information such as your social security number, bank account information, etc.  I believe these scholarships are probably ok but be cautious.  The website is:  studentscholarships.org

10/2/17 - Scholarship:  ACT Student Champion Award - $500 - for a student who has overcome challenges in their life - has at least an ACT of 22 - at least 3.0 gpa - preference will be given to first-generation college students - apply at www.act.org/readinesschampions - deadline December 31

12/4/17 - Just a reminder to all of the seniors about the handbook.  If you are lacking one (1) or more credits, at the end of the school year, you will not walk in graduation.  If you have questions about this, please don't hesitate to ask me.

I am so proud and excited for those of you who are getting scholarship offers, especially from multiple schools. Many of you have not decided where you will attend and that is fine, you have a little more time. I am asking that as soon as you know where you will be attending and have earned scholarship money, PLEASE let me know as soon as possible. Our college signing day is May 1st, 1:00 p.m.. I want as many college, military, and technical schools represented as possible and you to be awarded publicly. I want to invite the appropriate representatives, therefore, I need to know what school you have chosen and the scholarship name and amount that you will be receiving. This assembly will also include athletes that will be going to school on an athletic scholarship as well.

10/9/17 - A dinner hosted by Chancellor Kelly Damphousse exclusively for central Arkansas students. The event will be held on October 17 at the Chenal Country Club located at 10 Chenal Club Blvd. Little Rock, AR 72223.

If you have any students that have inquired about Arkansas State, please encourage them to register at www.astate.edu/redwolf as soon as possible. Students and their parents/guardians will check-in at 5:30, meet with academic areas from 5:30-6:30, and dinner will be served at 7:00.

www.scholarships.adhe.edu - scroll down to START - answer all questions - submit should be the last button you have to click - very easy and painless -  you will get an email confirming that you applied - in  the spring, you will receive an e-mail asking you to log back in and click the ACCEPT button - therefore, write down your login and password so that you will be able to access your account in the spring!!! 

FAFSA:  www.fafsa.gov - first click on FSA ID - get an FSA ID for you and a parent - this may take 2-3 days to obtain - keep this number because you have to fill out FAFSA every year that you are in college - After getting the ID's, click START new FAFSA and begin the process - save along the way so you don't lose your information - this asks for your parents income - this income is from 2016 tax return - you can automatically upload this information as you fill out the form (I suggest doing this) - you will know you are finished when you sign using your FSA ID number (both you and parent must sign) - finally click submit

10/3/17 - Junior and Senior preview day - UALR - October 13 or November 3 - On this day, UALR will waive the $40 application fee!!!! 10/3/17 - Jostens changed the date, to place your graduation orders, to Thursday, October 12, 1:30 in the library.  You will be called out of class when they are ready.  Remember that Jostens asks for at least a $60 deposit.  You have until March to get your balance paid off.  You MUST have or order a cap and gown, even if you don't order anything else.  You WILL NOT walk in graduation without a cap and gown.  If you intend to use someone else's cap and gown, please let  me know.  If you intend to do that, please order a 2018 tassel to go with your used gown.

EMPLOYMENT:  Just got this from Bass Pro Shops

We are conducting a job fair at Bass Pro Shops in Little Rock on Wednesday October 18 from 10am to 8pm.  We will be conducting interviews and same day hiring for cashiers and Santa’s Wonderland Elves.

If you would, please pass this information along to any of your students 18 years of age, that would be interested in part time seasonal employment.

Even though we will be hiring as seasonal employment, we will offer part time positions to those individuals that work through the holidays and portray a motivation and desire to become part of the “Bass Pro Family”.

9/15/17 - ​Any senior who has applied or plans to apply to UALR - Please fill out a scholarship application!!!  The Chancellor's Leadership Corps Scholarship is $32,000 and 12 of our students received it last year!!  They will schedule an interview with you and you want to be in the first wave of interviews, therefore, you need to apply before November 1.  This means apply AND fill out the application.  You will need to send two recommendation letters.  I do not mind e-mailing these for you if you will get them to me as soon as possible.  DON'T MISS OUT ON A POTENTIAL $32,000 SCHOLARSHIP

The $1,000 scholarships can go out of state, the $2,500 must stay in the state. - See Mrs. Simmons file drawer under A - deadline March 13, 2017.

10/27/16 - I work with Griswold Home Care which is offering $1,000 scholarship for incoming and current college students. We’re trying to spread the word and encourage students to apply. 11/2/16 - The NWFA Education & Research Foundation Wood Studies Scholarship is designed to promote the post-secondary study of forestry and related forestry sciences. Trees are a natural resource providing the raw materials that support the livelihood of those employed in the forestry industry, including members of the NWFA. This nonrenewable scholarship in the amount of $1,000 will be awarded to a current high school senior who will study forestry, environmental science, or natural resources in an effort to advance and improve forestry practices for generations to come. The deadline is February 1, 2017.
